Jerusalem of old was the whore of Revelation.

Ezekiel 23:16-21;

“She lusted after them when she saw them, so she sent messengers to summon them from Chaldea. The Babylonians came to her love nest and defiled her with their sexual immorality. As a result, she was defiled by them. Even so, she turned away from them in disgust. She displayed her immorality publicly and stripped herself naked, so I turned away in disgust from her, just as I had turned away in disgust from her sister. “Nevertheless, she became even more sexually immoral, even reminiscing about when she was young, when she kept on practicing sexual immorality in the land of Egypt. She lusted after her paramours, whose GENITALS are like those of donkeys, and whose emissions are like those of horses. Think about the wickedness that you practiced when you were young, when the Egyptians fondled your breasts, the breasts of your youth.”

.

.
This was a prophetic word against Jerusalem (Israel). In this prophecy Jerusalem was allegorical. It was describe as a woman of immoral attitude. This does not mean the town Jerusalem was a literal woman.

.

In this book of Ezekiel, Jerusalem is described as Whore or the Harlot. She had defiled itself with others nations, taking up their gods over their true God.

.

Jerusalem during the time of Christ and the disciples add defiled itself with other nations. I was in union with the Romans or the nation was govern by the Romans. They became subject to the Gentiles. This made them defile their ways.

.
It was in this abomination the Book of Revelation calls out Jerusalem of old as a whore. The writer of revelation, John, employed similar prophetic expression in describing the Jerusalem (nation Israel at that time)

..

Revelation 5: 4-6;

And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

..

From what is written above, it is easy to find who this Harlot is.

… :

1. Which city had it worship temples adorned with Precious stones? Jerusalem.

.

Luke 21:5-6;

Now while some people were talking about the Temple—how it was decorated with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God—he said, “As for these things that you see, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another that won’t be knocked down.”.

.:

2. Which city was filled with the blood of the saints and prophets of the Lord? Jerusalem!

Matthew 23;37-38;

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones to death those who have been sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling! Look! Your house is left abandoned! (Matthew 23:37-38)

There was many familar cries from Jesus about the city of Jerusalem. Luke records an account where the Lord Jesus cried upon saying the town.

:

Luke 19:41-46;

And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation. And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought; Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.

There are other verses that described Jerusalem as a harlot in the Ezekiel.

.

Jerusalem was called a whore with much abomination.

Ezekiel 16:1-3;

Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations, And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusalem; Thy birth and thy nativity is of the land of Canaan; thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite.

.
Verse 16-17:

And of thy garments thou didst take, and deckedst thy high places with divers colours, and playedst the harlot thereupon: the like things shall not come, neither shall it be so. Thou hast also taken thy fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest to thyself images of men, and didst commit whoredom with them,

.
Verse 21-22;

That thou hast slain my children, and delivered them to cause them to pass through the fire for them? And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast polluted in thy blood.

:

The book of Revelation is written allegorically about the Jerusalem/Israel. The book is not about literal world events.

..

It becomes very sad seeing people describing nations like America or Russia or Rome/Vatican or any other country as the Harlot of Revelation.

It would have to take so much adjusting to ignore many verses to come up with that. The book was fulfilled in AD70.
