Many people seem to believe that God gave the law to Moses. A closer study would reveal that it was not God but an Angel. Moses met an Angel.

Moses first encounter was an angel of the LORD.

There the ANGEL OF THE LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight —why the bush does not burn up.” When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.”
“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” Then he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God. (Exodus 3:2-6)

The Angel appeared in the burning bush. Moses addressed him as God. It was this same angel that appeared to Abraham, Jacob and Isaac.

But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. (Genesis 22:11) He stop Abraham from laying an and on Isaac (Verse 12)

It was this same angel that met Hagar.

The angel of the LORD also said to her, “I will so greatly multiply your offspring that they cannot be counted for multitude” (Genesis 16:10).

The same angel that appeared to Jacob.

Then the angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob,’ and I said, ‘Here I am’ (Genesis 31:11).

That is why the ANGEL addressed himself to Moses as the “The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob”.

All through the Israelite’s journey to the promise land they were lead by an Angel not God. Understanding this would give one the clue as to why God spoke through the Prophets that he did not give or ask them to offer sacrifices to him.

“The multitude of your sacrifices — what are they to me?” says the LORD. “I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals; I have no pleasure in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats. When you come to appear before me, who has asked this of you, this trampling of my courts? Stop bringing meaningless offerings! Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations — I cannot bear your worthless assemblies. Your New Moon feasts and your appointed festivals I hate with all my being. They have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood! (Isaiah 1:11-15)
(check; Jeremiah 7:22)

The saying that Moses met God and took the law is not accurate. It was an Angel who met Moses. For no one has ever seen God.

This what Jeus says;

NO ONE has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. (John 1:18)

(*The term “LORD” can also be interchanged with the word Satan; Check: 2 Samuel 24;1-2; and 1 Chronicle 21:1. Anytime some bad/evil things happen, it was attributed to the LORD or the anger of the LORD or term Satan)

Many have the believe that the “angel” was Christ, But he is not. Jesus was never an angel.
We know that was was written in the old covenant was hidden. The new came to reveal it.

The new testament is the revealing of what was hidden in the old testament.

That is what Stephen said about the Law given by angels (Acts 7:53),

Paul says it was an angel (Galatians 3:19) and

Hebrews confirms it also (Hebrew 2:2)

Why did the people call him “LORD”?

It was a Jewish custom.

Let me give you a scenario in the gospels (In Matthew and Luke).

In the Jewish customs anything servant represents his master he is said to be the master himself or addressed as the master himself.

Matthew and Luke recorded this.

Matthew, whose focus was the Jews used that Principle, and wrote that The Centurion himself met and spoke with Jesus. (Mathew 8:5-13)

When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help.
“Lord,” he said, “my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.”
Jesus said to HIM, “Shall I come and heal him?” The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ’Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ’Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ’Do this,’ and he does it.”)

Luke, whose gospel was to the Gentiles, did not use that Principle. He recorded that Jesus rather spoke with the Centurion’s Servants and not the Centurion himself.  (Luke 7:1-10)

When Jesus had finished saying all this to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum.
There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. The centurion heard of Jesus and sent SOME ELDERS of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant.
When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.”
So Jesus went with THEM. He was not far from the house when the centurion SENT FRIENDS to say to him: “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof.
That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.! I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ’Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ’Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ’Do this,’ and he does it.”

Understanding this would give one the reason why the Jews picked up stones to kill Jesus. Because he claims he was God.

I and the Father are one.” Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a MERE man, CLAIM to be God.” (John 10:30-33)

The law was not given by God. It made the people’s heart dull (2 Corinthians 3:7-14). It did not reveal the true heart of God to the people. That is why Jesus came to abolish the law (Ephesians 2:14-15)

It was never God’s will to make us holy by the law. It for us to be made holy by His Son, Jesus, who did the will of God and is now the will of God.

Then I said, ’Here I am —it is written about me in the scroll — I have come to do your will, my God.’” First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them” —though they were offered in accordance with the law.
Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. (Hebrews 10:7-10)

Jesus is the will of God. For everything God gave us, He desired it for us. And Jesus is the desire of God for us all.

That is why Jesus is perfect and express image of God for humanity.

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (Hebrews 1:3)

That is why He is superior than Angels.

So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. (Hebrews 1:4)

We are under the ruleship/Authority of Jesus Christ. We are under his Grace not the law by the angels. We have his nature, Love. And we are to love one another. That is the law of Christ.

Hope this blesses you.

Jesus reigns!
